FAQs

At SmartVault, we recognize that accountants who do bookkeeping, tax, audit and consulting work for their clients are our most important partners. Because small businesses look to you for technology advice, we want you to join us as a SmartAdvisor, use our product for your own business, and like it so much that you will tell your clients about us.

That’s why SmartVault is free for you to use with your own QuickBooks companies. If you want to use SmartVault as part of your client bookkeeping practice, with your clients’ QuickBooks companies, we do require you to purchase a Client Bonus Pack.

Besides all the great benefits of SmartVault for storing, securing and sharing QuickBooks accounting information and scanned documents, you can offer your clients a 10% discount on their monthly subscription fees for SmartVault. There's no catch. Your clients simply invite you to their SmartVault account to receive their discount. It's that easy.

No. There is never a charge for an end-user to invite their SmartAdvisor(s) into their SmartVault accounts.

Only if you purchase a Bonus Pack. If you have some clients who don’t have QuickBooks themselves, but you do all their bookkeeping for them in QuickBooks, a Bonus Pack will expand your free SmartVault account and allow you to store your clients’ data. If your clients have QuickBooks and want to use SmartVault, they need to be on an end-user pay plan.

SmartVault was originally designed for end users to subscribe to the SmartVault service, and then invite their accountants and bookkeepers in to share their data. We realized that this model did not offer a solution to accounts that do client bookkeeping, in which case the client usually does not even own a copy of QuickBooks.

We created the Client Bonus Pack as a way for SmartAdvisors who do client bookkeeping to pay us for our services, rather than requiring their clients to sign up as SmartVault customers. Client Bonus Packs can be added to your SmartAdvisor account with SmartVault.

If your client wants to get direct access to and control of their documents, signing up directly as a SmartVault customer is the way to go. This way, they can be the administrator of their own SmartVault account, which they own, and can also invite other people to share their documents through SmartVault. Of course, there is never any cost to you or your client to invite you into their SmartVault account.

First you need to create a user account. There is a simple sign up process to get started. You can click on the following link to sign up: https://my.smartvault.com/secure/signup.aspx

Once you have created a user account and SmartVault account, you will need to install the SmartVault client for a seamless document management experience within QuickBooks®.
